Top 35 Selling SUV in Canada Between January & February 2018

It is the lowest season for car manufacturers, but still, people acquire new cars. On this article, I just want to list the most popular 2018 SUV sales so far this year and analyze some curious trends. While it may be hard to make a year-end prediction, these two months are very interesting for two main reasons:

  • Some Manufacturers give away a lot: Nissan & Hyundai were offering no charge AWD on all SUVs during the past two months, but still, these didn't rank that high compared to other manufacturers that actually were not offering this.
  • People Almost don't buy cars on this season: So consider these to be "low numbers." For the months coming after, these numbers that now represent two months would easily be close (70% - 100%) to a single month of sales.

Honda's CR-V Sales

The CR-V is definitely the flagship SUV of the Japanese manufacturer. It is far away from any other alternative, and there is no even an Acura listed on this "top 35", so it is vital for Honda to keep pushing forward in this segment with the CR-V. The second good news is that they also dominate the compact vehicle sales with the Civic.

Top 35 Selling SUV in Canada Between January & February 2018: Honda CR-V

The CR-V reached more than 7,000+ sales during the lowest sale's period of the 2018 year.

Jeep's Sales are Outstanding

With the wrangler ranked #2 and both the Cherokee and Grand Cherokee among the top 10, FCA (Jeep manufacturer) has a total of SUV sales (only on the top 35) of more than 13,000+ units in the first two months of the year. They do not have the most popular vehicle, but overall sold more than any other brand on the top 35.

The Q5 Leads the Luxury Sales, but Mercedes Sell More Overall

If we aim specifically to the Luxury SUV sector, the Q5 keeps ranking as the most popular one, although Mercedes-Benz sells more overall. Additionally, it is kind of weird not to see any Acura among the top 35, the RDX and MDX sold around 900 and 500 units respectively.

  • #20 Audi Q5 - 1,678 units
  • (...)
  • #25 BMW X3 - 1,397 units

Top Seven Seaters

The list of seven-seaters is a little bit ambiguous because multiple alternatives come up with these as "an upgrade," but still it makes sense to mention those as a sale trend. It would be completely unfair to exclude the positions of those.

  • #10 Jeep Grand Cherokee - 2,363 units (seven seats available as an option)
  • #11 Ford Explorer - 2,222 units
  • (...)
  • #17 Toyota Highlander - 1,869 units
  • (...)
  • #19 Kia Sorento - 1,720 units (seven seats available as an option)

  • #22 GMC Terrain - 1,595 units

  • #35 Honda Pilot - 994 units

Top Crossovers: The Crosstrek Remains the King

The Crosstrek has turned in a few years into the flagship SUV from Subaru. Followed slightly close by the HR-V and the CX-3, it remains to be the most popular crossover so far in Canada.

  • #14 Subaru Crosstrek - 1,972 units
  • (...)
  • #18 Honda HR-V - 1,723 units
  • (...)
  • #23 Mazda CX-3 - 1,475 units
